Previously images of skulls and dragons illustrated by VCJ had dominated the line up. The "Vato Rat" as it was named came from Stecyks past Dogtown days when he tagged walls and surfboards with the image. Stacy Peralta was fond of those images and wanted to bring it back as a Powell Peralta
